What is Jailphone?
Jailphone offers a service that enhances prisoner accessibility by using unique additional services such as Voicemail and Conference Call, which are accessible via own, regional telephone numbers.
How does Jailphone operate?
Jailphone operates on the basis of access numbers. These numbers are used to make a connection with the destination number via our central switchboard. The switchboard is also accessible to people at home via their own private number. In that case you will be switched to the Voicemail and Conference Call options of your contact (prisoner).
Where and how can I register my contact?
Register via the Registration option. You will need the prisoner’s registration number and date of birth in order to register your contact. You will also need a valid personal e-mail address. You will receive a unique card number when you register. Pass this on to the prisoner. You will also receive a unique, regional telephone number via which you can access your contact’s Voicemail and Conference Call. Finally you will need to make an initial payment via the Top-up menu to activate the account.
Where do I find a registration number?
You can get the registration number from the prisoner or the penal institution where he/she is being detained.
What is an account?
You need to set up an account in order to utilise this service. You will have to enter a number of data such as the prisoner’s registration number. Once you have created an account, you will receive the required data to pass on to the prisoner.
Why register?
Registration is necessary to gain access to the account section of this website.
Where can I check the balance of my call credit?
You can check the balance by logging in on the website. You will have to create an account.
How can I top up?
You can top up via iDEAL, credit card or bank transfer. To do so proceed to Topping up.
What about the cost?
Jailphone costs are split as follows. First you pay the access call costs, which are only charged if you call in via 0800. They amount to 0.08 eurocents per minute. When calling out you also pay the tariff applicable to the relevant destination. See rates.
Who is entitled to use Jailphone?
Anyone can use Jailphone, providing they have a prisoner’s registration number and have created an account on this website.
Why does the website display tariffs for different countries?
It is possible to call a prisoner from a country outside the Netherlands. Each country has its own individual rate. The cost of the call is charged to your or the prisoner’s call credit.
Which number can I use to call?
Your account and the prisoner’s registration number are associated with a series of numbers, which are recorded in the account. You can check them once you have logged in.
Is Jailphone comparable to calling cards such as Cobra, Eurocity and Lips?
Yes and no. In principle the system is the same as Cobra, Eurocity and Lips because it also operates with an access number. However, Jailphone also provides other options such as Voicemail and Conference Call. Furthermore, when using Jailphone there is no longer a need to venture out, to buy top-up cards for example. You can top up your balance on your own computer via online banking using the Top up option.
